Global Day of Parents1st June 2021
The United Nations proclaimed June 1 of every year as “Global Day of Parents” in 2012, to honor the parents across the world. The love between a parent and their children is unique and forever. Family has the primary responsibility for the nurturing and protection of children and that children, for the full and harmonious development of their personality, should grow up in a stable family environment with parents available to nurture in an atmosphere of happiness, love and understanding. Global Parents Day or Parents Day provides an opportunity to appreciate and encourage all parents in all parts of the world for their selfless commitment to children and their lifelong sacrifices towards nurturing this relationship. As the main supporters of families, parents had to face the brunt of the pandemic – economic, physical and psychological. Many parents have had to support families including children and elderly parents amid salary cuts and job losses. Caring for out of school children’s online learning as well as continuing work from home have taken a toll on parents globally. We take the opportunity of this day to appreciate parents vital role in dealing with the pandemic and simultaneously being available and providing protection and positive development for their children. We wish Parents and their families good physical and mental health. Stay Safe. Stay healthy.
World No Tobacco Day31st May 2021
The harms of tobacco use are well-established. Tobacco causes 8 million deaths every year and when the news came out that smokers were more likely to develop severe disease with COVID-19 compared to non-smokers, it triggered millions of smokers to want to quit tobacco. Smokers have up to a 50% higher risk of developing severe disease and death from COVID-19, so quitting is best thing smokers can do to lower their risk from this coronavirus, as well as the risk of developing cancers, heart disease and respiratory illnesses. Quitting can be challenging, especially with the added social and economic stress that have come as a result of the pandemic. The World No Tobacco Day 2021 campaign aims to empower and support tobacco users on their journey to quit. Colleagues, Friends, Family also have a role to play in encouraging smokers to commit to Quit Tobacco. Encourage your loved ones to Break the habit of any form of tobacco use before its too late. Stay Safe. Stay healthy.
